FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is performance psychology?

We see performance psychology as a field predicated on exploring each person’s story as both a performer and a human being. Throughout the process, we look to the clients’ strengths, values, and goals to determine the mental skills and approach that will meet the client where they are and enable them to reach their fullest potential.

How can working on my mind help me?

Working on (or with) one’s mind can allow the individual to generate awareness, assess strengths, identify areas for growth, envision ideal outcomes, build stress-resilience skills, and leverage different styles of thought and emotional processing. The intent is geared toward reaching past perceived limits and growing to become the best version of themself that they can be.

What exactly is it that you do?

We facilitate mental skills training programs that are intended to make training the mind an enjoyable and approachable process. Initially, the spaces involve building rapport, establishing a psychologically safe environment, and performance profiling the goals of the performer(s). The sessions typically include psychoeducation surrounding the given topic, an activity or intervention which directly demonstrates the mental skill in action, and a nonjudgmental space to apply the learnings to their world alongside a guide. Sessions conclude with processing, debriefing takeaways, and a tangible takeaway or method to practice the mental skill that was highlighted during the session, independently. Do you work with people other than athletes?

Our intent as a practice is to broaden our scope beyond athletes. We are working on initiatives that are geared toward reaching performing artists, businesses, individuals living with varying disabilities, injury-rehabilitation contexts, and people looking to build their mental game, in general.

What is your approach to performance psychology?

Each of us embraces a values-driven and mindfulness-based approach. However, we make sure to be flexible and meet the clients where they are, responding to their desired outcomes and doing our best to exercise other subdisciplines and consider the context of each scenario. Depending on the situation, we tailor our approach to what we believe would best serve the performer(s) involved.
